Guidelines for submitting your application

When submitting your application for the post of Associate Professor, please observe the following guidelines:

1. Organize your application in clear chapters: personal data, formal education, positions held, scientific activity, research supervision, teaching experience, popular science activities, administrative experience, and a short presentation of scientific production (see point 4).  The applicant's last name must be written in the top left corner of all pages in the application, which must also be numbered.

2. The scientific works must be listed chronologically with full references including number of pages and co-authors.  They must also be labeled with the following categories:

  1. Doctoral dissertations and masters theses, monographies
  2. Publications in refereed scientific journals
  3. Published contributions to books
  4. Publications in unrefereed scientific journals
  5. Published overviews (secondary literature such as overview articles, summaries, excerpts, etc.)
  6. Published reviews of work by others (evaluations, reviews, committee reports, etc.)
  7. Published popular science articles, unpublished syllabi and policy statements
  8. Research reports in e.g. internal report series
  9. Other written production
3. The applicant must clearly indicate which of the scientific works (up to 10) must be regarded as most significant, and provide a separate list of these.  These works will be evaluated especially thoroughly by the assessment committee.

A doctoral dissertation will in this respect be regarded as one scientific work, even if it is a collection of separate publications.

4. The work of the assessment committee will be made easier if the applicant provides a summary presentation of her/his scientific career and activity, centered around the (up to 10) selected works.  Those parts of the production which are most relevant for the position according to the job announcement and job description, must be discussed in more detail.

5. Sole authorship or first authorship generally counts more than second authorship.  The applicant must, where relevant, indicate her/his part in joint productions or provide a reference to a contact person who knows the works and the applicant, and who can be contacted by the committee.

6. If possible, the applicant must document earlier successful supervision of masters or doctoral students.  If the applicant has supervised together with others, it must be documented to which extent the candidate's part in supervising has been central and meaningful.  This documentation should have the form of statements by colleagues.

7. Documentation of pedagogical qualifications will be somewhat different from that which is the case for scientific competence.  But it is the applicant's responsibility to document her/his qualifications in a way that supports a qualitative evaluation.

The assessment committee will use the following checklist:

  1. Basic pedagogical and didactic training

  2. Courses in university pedagogy, practical pedagogical training, university studies in pedagogics or related fields, teacher tests, specialization courses.
    Documentation: diplomas and certificates.
  3. Evaluation reports

  4. Documentation: reports from the pedagogical evaluation of courses which include the applicant's teaching must be included and discussed.  Methods as well as results will be discussed and evaluated.
  5. Teaching, supervision and examination

  6. Teaching methods: lectures, seminars, demonstrations, exercises, distance education, etc.
Supervision: masters theses, research training, etc.
Membership of examination committees and other forms of student evaluation.
  7. Own pedagogical publications, syllabi and teaching materials

  8. Documentation: if there are many works, only a representative selection of the works should actually be submitted.  The rest can be mentioned in an overview list.
  9. Experimental and development work

  10. Reports showing participation in projects related to development of new teaching methods, alternative methods for teaching, supervising or new learning situations.
    Documentation: plans, reports, certificates, etc.
  11. Student awards received

  12. Documentation: received awards with motivation.
8. Administrative experience can be participation in councils, boards, committees that work with research and education questions at departmental, faculty or institution level, engagement in research policy, administration of research projects, etc.

9. The applicant is requested to state explicitly whether she/he can participate fully in the department's activities.

10. The applicant must indicate in which languages she/he can teach.
