T. Langøigjelten (b. 1982 in Trondheim) studied Russian
and Comparative Literature in Bergen and Trondheim. She received
her BA degree in 2005 and is now a MA student at the University
of Bergen. Her MA thesis will explore, in a comparative perspective,
the verbal handling of the Chechnya wars by the Russian presidents
Eltsin and Putin. More specifically, it will study the ways in
which particular words are used to designate and characterize
the wars, the Chechens, etc. In trying to highlight the different
approaches of Eltsin and Putin, it will investigate to which degree
the choice of words of the Russian presidents is influenced by
international politics.
