First Call for Papers
It is a pleasure to invite the Landslide group to the fifth and
final project conference, which will take place in Bergen 16-20
September 2008, in Solstrand, where we gathered for the first
time three years ago. The conference proper will take place 17-18
September, with Tuesday, 16 September and Saturday 20 September
as days of arrival/departure. For Friday 19 September we plan
a boat excursion to the Rosendal
Baronial Manor from 1665. As usual, the project covers travel
expenses, accommodation 16-20 September (last night in Bergen
City, not Solstrand), and the meals.
The main theme of the conference is Norm negotiations.
We here think about explicit norm negotiations as in discussions
and debates about language, but also, and not least, about linguistic
(and literary) practices which 'perform' norm negotiations in
a variety of ways (cf Henning Andersen's concept of linguistic
'norm negotiations' meaning the constant participation by the
speakers of a language in its development*). The main chronological
framework is post-Perestroika Russia, but papers addressing the
1920-30s/the Soviet period are also welcome.
*) Henning Andersen, 1989, “Understanding Linguistic
Innovations,” in Language Change: Contributions to the Study
of its Causes, eds. Leiv Egil Breivik & Ernst Haakon
Jahr, Berlin, p. 25.

In view of the planned publication of conference papers (in the
form of revised and expanded articles), I wish to take a slightly
more active part in the development of your chosen topics this

your proposals (both topic and abstract) with a few comments and
suggestions.
